Location: Saint Simons Island Public Beach At The Old Coast Guard Station.
Main Event: Saturday 10/26 At 12 Noon

Davis Love, III’s Paddle & Putt has co-hosted the Golden Isles Stand-Up Paddleboarding Classic for the past three years. For 2013 the event will undergo a name change to more accurately reflect the roots of the event. The race will now be known as the “Saint Simons Island SUP Challenge”, with Paddle & Putt being the sole host for the race. This event is the largest and most widely attended paddleboard race in Georgia and continues to grow in popularity and participants each year. We anticipate an attendance of approximately 125 race participants in this years event.

Over the past number of years, a charity has been selected to receive 100% of the net proceeds through the generous Corporate and small business contributions, donations, registration fees and the yearly raffle. The 2013 Beneficiary is the “CURE for Childhood Cancer”. The “CURE” is a Georgia based, nonprofit 501(c) 3 Organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through funding targeted research and through support of patients and their families. CURE Childhood Cancer believes that childhood cancer can be cured in our lifetime. More information on CURE can be found on their website at: http://www.curechildhoodcancer.org

Race Specifics:
Registration Fee is $48.00 and includes: Access To All Demo-Day Events, Race T-Shirt, 1 Ticket To Any One Day of the McGladrey PGA Tournament (11/4-10/2013), Dinner and Adult Beverages At The Registration Party, Box Lunch On Race Ray, Dinner and Adult Beverages At the Awards Ceremony, 1 Free Raffle Ticket And Tons And Tons Of Swag. Non Race Participant Fee of $30.00 Provides The Same As Above, With The Exception of Racing.

The Event consist of 5 Races: 3 Mile Ocean Recreational Race, 7Mile Ocean Elite Race, 4 Person Relay Race, Youth Race-13 & Under and a Dog on Board Race. All Races Will Be a Beach Start.

The Recreational 3 Mile Race will be a 1.5 mile out & back formatted beach start race with 3 Board Classes, having a Men’s and Women’s Division in each:
12’6″ And Under Stock/Surf Board Shapes (Planing Hulls)
12’6” And Under Race (Displacement Hulls)
14″ And Under Race/Displacement Hull

In addition to the 3 Board Classes there will be 2 age Sub-Division as follows:
14 – 49
50 & Over

The Elite 7.5-mile competition course will be a 3.5 mile out & back beach start with 4 Board Classes in both the Men’s and Women’s Division:
12’6 And Under Surf/Stock, Planing Hull
12’6″ And Under Race/Displacement Hull
14″ And Under Race/Displacement Hull
Unlimited – Must Be Traditional SUP Design, Planing or Displacement Hulls. No Multi Hull, Foils or Rudders.

In addition to the Board Classifications there will be 2 age Sub-Divisions for the Elite Race:
14 – 49
50 & Over

Prize Money For This Event Will Be Awarded As Follows:

 

7.5 Mile Elite 12’6″ and Under Men’s Division
1st. Place = $1,000.00
2nd. Place = $500.00
3rd. Place = $250.00

 

7.5 Mile Elite 12’6″ and Under Women’s Division
1st. Place = $1,000.00
2nd. Place = $500.00
3rd. Place = $250.00

4 Person Relay Race: New for 2103 will be the 4 Person Relay Race. Each team will consist of at least one female. Teams are to select a board of their choosing, 12’6″ and under (planing or displacement) and that board will be paddled by each team member. Team member paddles will be their own or shared. This race will be a beach start, out and back to a buoy and a beach tag to activate the next racer. The course will be an estimated 1/2 mile out and back per paddler. There will be no limit to the number of teams participating…can you say mayhem?

This race is not timed, first to cross the finish line…wins. Trophies will be awarded for the 1st-3rd place finishing teams. The Team Captain will submit the team name and identify each racer prior to the start of the event.

13 And Under: This Category will have Boys and Girls Divisions with trophies awarded for the top three finishers in each division.
This race will be a stagnate start, out and back format for an estimated 1.5 miles.

Dog-On-Board: will be a 1/4 mile out and back stagnate start. First dog to cross the finish line wins.

 

Demo Day Friday October 25, 2013

In Addition to the traditional Demo Day Events, this year will feature a Paddle Surf Demonstration with Shane “Waterboy” Webb of Jimmy Lewis Boards/Saltwater Kite & Paddle, A Race and Stroke Clinic presented by Michael Tarvras of Boardworks And weather permitting, a very cool Kiteboard Demo by Ken Russell from Jimmy Lewis.

Saint Simons Island Public Beach At The Old Coast Guard Station.
